The Latest Instagram Algorithm Update

We’re always wondering what the latest Instagram algorithm update is. The Instagram algorithms (yes, multiple algorithms) determine who sees your posts and how well they perform. And thankfully Instagram founder Adam Mosseri has been very helpful lately in letting us know when these algorithm updates occur! The latest Instagram algorithm update is very creator-friendly and is designed to help content creators succeed!

The Latest Instagram Algorithm Update

The good news is, this latest Instagram Algorithm Update is really nice for content creators and should help your original Instagram content succeed instead of making things more difficult! And if you’re a business that has considered collaborating with content creators, you can be assured that the performance of their original content should be favorable.

Instagram Algorithm Update Will Prioritize Original Content

Adam Mosseri (founder of Instagram) announced that Instagram will now prioritize original content. This means that creative, original pieces of produced content should perform BETTER than content that has been recycled or reposted.

It can be frustrating for content creators when another account shares their work and it performs better than the original post did. Sometimes those reposting don’t provide credit which makes it even more frustrating for content creators who have worked hard on their original production. Thankfully Instagram recognizes this and wants to help creators succeed.

This algorithm update honors the hard work creators, designers, small business owners, and influencers have put into creating their own original content for Instagram. It can take hours of work for a single post or Instagram Reel so I’m super happy about this update.

How Does This Change Your Instagram Strategy?

Depending on what kind of account you are, this could change your Instagram Strategy in several ways. Just a reminder, high-quality, valuable content will always succeed the most with any audience on Instagram. Teaching, inspiring, and entertaining your audience with original content will always be the best strategy for success.

If a majority of your posts are recycled content (reposts from other creators/accounts), you will want to change up your content plan. Create more of your own original content, instead of relying on the content of other accounts. That’s not to say you can’t still repost other accounts here and there. We know that a proper repost that includes tagging the sources can perform well and can help create community in the app. Just don’t overdo it! Try backing it down to one repost every 5-7 posts. That way a majority of your Instagram feed remains your OWN and Instagram will reward you for it.

If you only repost other accounts every once in awhile, don’t worry! You can still repost others’ content. Just be sure it isn’t a majority of your feed. Also it is imperative you ask for permission to repost and always credit the proper sources in the first few lines of the caption text. It can be very frustrating as a creator if someone else is appearing to steal your work without the proper credit. As a creator, I always like to be asked for permission when someone wants to repost my content. It’s an act of good faith and leads to fostering better relationships on the ‘gram!

If you never repost content from other creators, that’s totally okay! You don’t have to change a thing. Keep posting your own original content and (hopefully) reap the rewards.

Instagram Algorithm

We hope this is helpful as you plan your Instagram content! Remember, you don’t ever have to totally change. what you’re doing if it’s already successful. But early adapters generally see the best return. And creating your own high-quality and valuable content is ALWAYS the way to go.
